Rennstieg
The Rennstieg
The Rennstieg is an ancient route which was often used by messengers. It runs between Eigenrieden and Behringen from North to South across the Hainich's ridge.
The path passes through natural beech woodland almost along its entire length. Only very few stretches around the Craulaer Kreuz and beyond the Behringer Holz go through open areas. From there, walkers have wonderful views all the way to the Fahner Höhen ridge northeast and to the Thuringian Forest and Wartburg Castle southwest.
