"Natur Natur sein lassen." The core mission of a national park is to leave nature to take care of itself. The conservation aim of Hainich National Park is to preserve the unique mixed deciduous forests with their biodiversity, dynamics and the variegated flora and fauna of the Hainich.

Based on these parameters are the multifaceted tasks of the national park authority, such as research, environmental education, public relations, national and international cooperation, but also signage, construction and maintenance of walking paths for visitors seeking recreation in the great outdoors.
