Region

What's there to see in the region?

Gentle mountain ranges and fertile meadows crosses by stream course. Old peasant villages and small farming communities. Half-timbered house, baroque palaces and castle ruines. The region around Hainich National Park is part of an old cultural landscape and deeply rooted in its rural tradition. And – old times are still palpable here, where the world goes by at leisure.

Idyllic villages and small towns are scattered around the national park, which is part of the larger Naturpark Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal. Many of them are starting points of walking paths into the national park, and they all impress by their old village structures and lovingly restored half-timbered houses. National Park Partners give a warm welcome to tourists and are happy to share valuable insider tipps with you.

Parish fairs and traditional shooting festival – the traditions of the Hainich communities continue to live on. For generations, the people here have all been living with the woodland, which today is their livelihood in another way.
